Discover How Far Apple AirTag Can Track: Explained in Detail

Apple has never failed to surprise users with innovative and practical products. Whether it’s the classic iPhone or Apple Pencil, Apple has always topped the digital game and stood out among competitors with unprecedented features.

Apple AirTag is another product that has been recently launched in the market and immediately grabbed the attention of Apple users and the general public.

Who could’ve ever imagined that a small coin-sized device could help you track your precious belongings on your mobile screen? Well, Apple has made it all possible with its latest product release.

What is the use of Apple AirTag?

AirTag can be used to locate your lost items like bags, keys, wallets and other belongings just by attaching the AirTag to the preferred item. Users can attach it to almost any item or place it inside them. They are usually sold in packs of four but you can also buy one according to your requirements.

How does an AirTags help you to locate a lost item?

Apple airtags range helps you locate your belongings by pinging its location to a nearby Apple device using Bluetooth. It also supports Precision Finding mode which uses the ultra-wideband network to track your lost item more precisely than other item trackers.

Additionally, the Apple AirTag also supports an exclusive Find My Network app to locate your belongings using the other Apple Devices on the same network.

How does an AirTag work?

With Bluetooth for proximity finding, and the U1 Chipset for precision finding that uses ultra-wideband and NFC for interaction with iPhones, users can easily locate their lost items.

Once you open the Locate My app, you can find your AirTag listed under the “New Items”. Then, you can activate the “lost mode” by choosing the AirTag attached to the belonging.

Now, you can add a contact number or other personal information when an AirTag is scanned by an NFC-Compatible device. This way the person who finds your belongings attached to the AirTag can contact you to return it.

An AirTag keeps beeping until it’s read by a device after being detached from the associated device for 8-24 hours. This reduces the possibility of an AirTag being used for stalking or any other nefarious activity.

How far can you track an AirTag?

Using Bluetooth

AirTag can be tracked with your Apple device, using Bluetooth for up to 100 feet. However, this distance might differ depending on the obstructions such as walls that can block the signal. The distance can be reduced to 80 feet once inside, 50 feet with wooden or drywall and 10 feet once concrete walls are present.

The precision finding uses the ultra-wideband network to locate devices with a U1 chip which is useful when the item attached to AirTag is hidden behind furniture or any other obstruction.

Using Find My App

The Find My app locates your AirTag on a map for older iPhone devices. You can simply command Siri to navigate the lost item, using this method. The AirTag detects any nearby Apple device linked to the Find My network for over 100 feet.

Conclusion

To conclude, AirTag can be tracked using various tracking methods on your Apple device. However, users must not rely completely on AirTag to find their lost items as it comes with certain restrictions and it’s difficult to answer whether can you track airtag miles away or not.
