WITNESS THE MESMERIZING BEAUTY OF INDRAHAR PASS TREK

Indrahar pass Trek is a stunning, mountain pass in the Dhauladhar ranges of the Himalayas. It is situated at an altitude of 4342 meters. It is located in the famous tourist attraction town of Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh. It does have challenging terrain, tranquil beauty, and rich cultural heritage. There are other high-peak mountains surrounding it and it connects the Kangra and Chambra valleys. The difficulty level of this trek is moderate and it takes almost 10 days for a hiker or even a newbie to finish. The months of April-June and October to November are the best time to initiate this trip.

Here is the detailed itinerary of this enchanting trek.

 

DAY 1: HEADING TO McLeodganj

The first day is all about reaching McLeodganj. For that, you can choose either flight or rail or even road. If it is by air, the nearest airport to mcleodganj is gaggal airport. You have to be careful while picking up flights since there are only a few services available to Mcleodganj. Pathankot railway station is the nearest if you choose rail. Best if it’s an overnight journey trip.

Mcleodganj, is known widely for its explicit beauty and is lovingly called ‘little lhasa’. Nearby attractions include the famous Dalai Lama temple. It is absurd to head forward without taking a visit to the temple. Bhagsu waterfalls, Naddi village, Namgyal Monastery are some other places of interest. Mcleodganj is apt for peace lovers and green panthers. You will experience a glimpse of some local cuisines and their culture. Local markets are also at your service. Generally at Mcleodganj, you will be given instructions regarding the training and trek. If you are going in batches, there will be a guide to help you until the very end of the journey.

 

DAY 2: McLeodganj to Triund

This is the start of your trekking day. It is a 10km trek to Triund via Dharamkot. It is basically a trek through a mixture of forests having varieties of trees like rhododendron and deodar. Galu devi temple along the way, fills our hearts with divinity. It is a very thrilling and easy trek and can enjoy the peacefulness of triund and a captivating view of kangra valley. Migrant birds accompany you along the journey. By the end, the view of sunset soothes your soul.

 

DAY 3: Triund to Lahesh Cave

This day is more about getting accustomed to the climate. The climate gets harsh on this day. Lahesh Cave is not so popular but it is a part of the magic of Himalayas. To stay at this secluded cave for one night seems daring at first, but it is the way to go if you want the journey to be really nature oriented. Sometimes it can rain because the weather in the Himalayas is unpredictable. It provides the opportunity to encounter an amazing panoramic view of Dhauladhars.

 

DAY 4: Lahesh cave to Indrahar Pass

Day 4 is the longest of all the days and it’s the end of our destination. It can get a bit difficult as you have to walk through rocks. It’s really steep in some places. Gaddi shepherds are unavoidable as you get to see them during the journey. Their presence makes it more fun and loving. There are staircases shaped of rock to facilitate a comfortable passage for goats. By the time you reach Indrahar pass trek, you will be at an elevation of 14160 ft. A wide view of pir panjal range and mani mahesh kailash peak is all that is offered. The majestic beauty of Indrahar shifts us to a whole new world.

 

DAY 5: Down to Chatru Parao to kuarsi.

After enjoying the great Indrahar Pass trek, you trek towards the valley and cross the bridge while feeling the thick snow present. There is a bit of snowfall which is so pretty to watch. There are meadows, and pine trees along the way. It takes almost six to seven hours to reach Kuarsi and after staying there overnight, you will end the trek by going down to chamba.

Thereby, calling for the end of the journey.

 

The journey to Indrahar Pass can vary depending on the path you choose. It can take a minimum of 5 to even 10 days. This is even applicable to solo trips.

 

GETTING READY FOR THE TRIP: The two criteria put forward are nothing but fitness and flexibility as for any other trekking. Walking with heavy bags on your shoulders is not easy peasy. Prior training is very much essential. Avoid monsoon seasons as it is more likely to occur in landslides. Basic amenities must be carried along with proper medications.
