What is the price of a root channel? Comparison of how much it costs in Sanitas, Asisa or Adeslas

The average price of a root canal is 195 euros, according to the results of a study that we have recently carried out in different dental clinics throughout Spain. This same study shows that the average price of endodontics is 290 euros.

Endodontics is one of the most required treatments in the world of Dentistry since it is usually necessary when a tooth has to be reconstructed due to deep decay. In a smaller percentage of occasions, endodontics is also used after a fracture.

Given the high frequency with which this procedure is performed, it is of great interest to know how much a root canal costs and what factors influence its price.

What is a root channel?

Endodontics -also called root canal treatment- is a procedure that is carried out in patients who present advanced caries, which has not been treated in time with a filling.

When decay is not treated, it gets deeper and destroys more and more of the tooth, until it reaches the dental pulp. Therefore, we can say that the classic filling is used to treat superficial cavities.

However, once the lesion reaches internal tissues, it will be necessary to resort to a root canal. This greater complexity means that the price of a root canal is higher than that of a filling. How Much Is A Root Canal Without Insurance?

What determines the price of endodontics?

The price of a root canal can vary depending on different factors, such as the type of tooth to be treated, the number of canals or the degree of destruction of the dental piece.

Tooth type and number of root canals

This is, without a doubt, the main factor that determines the cost of a root canal. Adults have up to 32 permanent teeth in their mouths: eight incisors, four canines, eight premolars, and 12 molars (counting wisdom teeth).

Each of these types of teeth is different and has a specific number of roots (one to three). In turn, these roots have a series of root channels (up to five) inside. That being said, the price of a root canal depends, fundamentally, on the number of root canals that the tooth-to-be root canal has.

Because there are more ducts, the procedure will be more complex and will require more time.

root channel type

Together with the above, we can distinguish three types of endodontics depending on the number of roots and root canals that a tooth has:

  • Single root endodontics: it is the one that is done in dental pieces that have a single root and a single root canal. Therefore, it is the most economical. This is the case for central incisors, lateral incisors, canines, mandibular first premolars, and mandibular second molars.
  • Biradicular endodontics: it is the procedure that is performed on teeth that have a single root and two root canals. These teeth are the upper second premolars.
  • Multi-rooted endodontics: This type of endodontics is carried out on teeth that have two or more roots and three or more root canals. This is the case of molars, both upper and lower. Being the most complex endodontics, it is also the most expensive of all.

damage suffered

The damage suffered by a cavity can also be of various kinds. Therefore, the deeper these damages are, the more expensive the procedure will be.

Once the endodontics is done, it will be necessary to restore the lost dental tissue. In less serious cases, a reconstruction may be used, which consists of applying layers of composite to the tooth, until reproducing the original dental anatomy.

However, when decay has caused the loss of a large part of the dental tissue, it will be necessary to place a post and a crown. The post is a structure that is inserted into the root to reinforce and give stability to the dental piece. Subsequently, a crown is placed to protect the original tooth.

How could it be otherwise, this last treatment option also increases the final price of a root canal.
