Macau to collect US$613 mln gaming tax in April

Macau’s government collected just over $4.95 billion (US$613.3 million) in fiscal revenue from taxes on games in April, according to the latest available data released Tuesday by the Macau Financial Services Authority. The April figure represents nearly half of the $10.1 billion in game revenue collected in the first three months of the year.

In the four months to April 30, the government collected fiscal revenues just below 15.07 billion MOPs from gaming taxes, up 47.6% from a year earlier.

Under Macau’s new 10-year game concession scheme, which went into effect on Jan. 1, the effective tax on casino gross game revenue is 40%.

Macau’s casino GGR reached 14.72 billion MOPs in April, up 15.6% from March. The April results were the best monthly performance since January 2020, before the pandemic alert began.

Casino GGR was 49.36 billion MOPs in the four months to April 30, up 141.4% from a year ago. 경마

The tax collection figures for a given calendar period and the city casino GGR for that period cannot be compared directly for a number of reasons. This includes the fact that there is generally a delay between when the GGR was recorded in the Macau casino operation and when the Macau government registered taxes as being paid for such play.

Macau’s government has previously said it estimates the 2023 casino GGR to be MOP130 billion.

According to the government’s budget plan, game tax revenues will be slightly above the MOP of $50.85 billion this year. Income in the first four months of the year is equivalent to 29.6% of that figure.
