How to get blood out of sheets when in a fresh & dried state?

Most of the ladies out there might agree that the view of blood stains on our favorite bed sheets, clothes, or mattresses can be quite frustrating. It is a situation which none of us wants to deal with. But, at the same time, it is quite inevitable and hence, we are forced to deal with this scenario quite often. This is especially true in the case of those ladies who have a relatively heavier menstrual flow. During such instances, we might wonder how to get blood out of sheets when in a fresh and dried state. Some might think that the procedure that needs to be followed in the case of removing blood from bed sheets is the same in the case of both fresh and dried blood stains. But, it is not so, and the process of removing the blood stains in both the cases is actually very different. It must be noted that removing fresh blood stains from the sheets is much simpler when compared to dried stains. Hence, it is highly advisable that you try removing the stains when they are in the fresh state. This will help in the easy removal of the stains and you will not have to put in much effort.

How to get blood out of sheets when fresh?

  • If you ever come across blood stains on your sheets, then you should immediately gather the necessary supplies and begin the cleaning process without further delay.
  • While you gather the supplies, make sure that you are checking the care label properly. This is very important because checking the label will help you to know if it is safe to use the chlorine or all-fabric bleach on the bed sheets.
  • Then, you should soak the blood stain in cold water for about 15 minutes. This must be done as quickly as possible before the stain becomes dry. In the case of stains that are super fresh, you should place the stained area under cold running water. This will help in flushing out some of the blood from the sheets.
  • After 15 minutes, you have to take the bed sheet and then, sponge the stained area with hydrogen peroxide. Alternatively, you can also try rubbing the area with a bar soap. Then, you can scrub the area using your hand in cold water.
  • After that, you need to apply some laundry pre-treater on that area. You can also rub in a good liquid laundry detergent. Then, you can wash the remaining blood stain using some warm water. While doing so, you can use a fabric-safe bleach to help in the removal of the stain.
  • It must be noted that the washed sheets should not be put in the clothes dryer until the blood stain is completely gone. If the stain has not been removed properly, then exposure to heat will set the stain further. This will make it even harder to remove the stain in the subsequent washes.

How to get blood out of sheets when in the dried state?

  • First of all, you have to make a mixture of cold water and laundry detergent. You can also use a pre-soak stain remover such as, Carbona Oxy Powered Laundry Soaker. You have to soak the stained area of the bedsheet in this mixture or pre-soak stain remover.
  • You might have to soak the stain for several hours or even overnight. The total time required will depend on the severity of the stain. It is recommended that you give the stain a good scrub by hand, several times during this period. This will enhance the stain removal process.
  • Once the soaking mixture has removed as much of the blood stain as possible from the sheets, you have to rinse it well. You should use a stain pre-treater or a liquid detergent during this step. Also, try laundering the stained sheet using a fabric-safe bleach.
  • If the above mentioned steps do not yield the required results, then you can try using a method that is a bit stronger. Here, you have to mix 1 quart of water and 1 teaspoon of laundry detergent. To this mixture, you have to add 1 tablespoon of ammonia.
  • Then, you have to soak the stain again in this mixture until it is completely removed. Also, scrub often to speed up the stain removal process. Alternatively, you can also try rubbing the stain with a laundry bar soap, such as Fels-Naptha. Thereafter, you should rewash the sheets.
