Four-time MLB releasee signs minor league deal with San Francisco

I think it’s safe to call him an icon of defiance at this point.

We’re talking about Japanese infielder Yoshitomo Tsutsugo (31).

“Tsutsugo has agreed to a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball (MLB),” Japanese media outlets such as Sankei Sports reported on the 21st, citing an official as saying, “If there are no problems in the physical examination, he will sign a formal contract.”

“San Francisco is currently aiming for a postseason berth, and Tsutsugo will play a few games in Double-A before waiting for a call-up to the big leagues in Triple-A,” the outlet explained.

After dominating Japanese professional baseball, hitting 44 home runs in 2016, Tsutsugo joined the Tampa Bay Rays in 2020 to begin his big league challenge.

The road has been rocky, as he has been released by four organizations between 2021 and this year: Tampa Bay, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Texas Rangers.

After being dropped by Texas this year, Tsutsugo received offers from Japanese professional baseball teams, including his hometown team, the Yokohama DeNA BayStars, but he never got on a plane to Japan.

He joined the Staten Island Ferry Hawks of the American Independent League’s Atlantic League earlier this month to try to make a comeback, and returned to American professional baseball after about 20 days. 먹튀검증
