Century Casinos eyes China market with cruise gaming

Nasdaq-listed game operator Century Casino announced Thursday that it has opened a casino on the cruise ship “Mr. Glory.” It said the move would help develop its business in the Chinese cruise market through gaming facilities for VIP players.

According to the travel agency’s corporate website, the cruise ship is operated by Diamond Cruise International, a subsidiary of mainland China’s Suzhou Taihu International Travel Agency. The ship made its maiden voyage from Shanghai, China, to Shimonoseki, Japan, this week.

The Sea of Glory can accommodate more than 1,200 passengers and consists of a casino featuring an “early gaming mix” of 40 slot machines and 16 live gaming tables.

“The casino will cater to ordinary cruise passengers as well as VIP players provided by Junket operators,” Century Casino said.

The cruise will focus on the Chinese cruise market as a “four-day trip between China, South Korea and Japan,” the Nasdaq-listed company added.

“It’s a very cost-effective way for our company to gain a foothold in the lucrative Chinese market and certainly has the potential to grow its ship-based casino sector on a very meaningful scale,” Century Casino co-CEO Irwin Heitzman and Peter Hölger said in a statement attached to the press release. 바다이야기

Diamond Cruise International plans to acquire three to four new vessels in the next five years to increase its market share in the Chinese cruise business sector, according to Century Casino.
