Square Enix makes a lot of great games for the Nintendo Switch.
Square Enix has made and sold some of the most popular game series ever, like Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. It shouldn’t be a surprise that the company’s video games will continue to be of this high quality.
There are a lot of Square Enix RPGs for the Nintendo Switch, and each one has a different setting and story. There’s something for everyone in the collection, whether you want to play a remastered old favorite for the first time or go on a whole new adventure in a new game.
Biggest Cast Ever – Chrono Cross: Radical Dreamers
Chrono Cross: Radical Dreamers is a sequel to Chrono Trigger, but it is very different from it in many ways. It still makes references to what happened in Chrono Trigger, though. In Chrono Cross, Serge, a teen, is thrown into an alternate universe where he died as a child without his knowledge.
Serge finally decides to help Kid get the Frozen Flame because he wants to find out what really happened. Chrono Cross also has a large cast of characters. You can add up to 45 people to your party. This version has the story Radical Dreamers, which was the basis for Chrono Cross.
Build Your Own World – Legend Of Mana
In Legend of Mana, you are given the job of making the world of Fa’Diel as beautiful as it used to be. You use the artifacts you find on your journey to make “Lands,” which are places like towns or dungeons that you can then walk through.
This part of the game is what moves it forward and makes it different from other Mana and RPG games. With a mix of sprites and hand-drawn backgrounds, the remaster’s art direction keeps the charm of the original. Try Legend of Mana if you want to play an RPG that is different and doesn’t follow a set path.
Emotional Storytelling – Nier: Automata The End Of Yorha Edition
In Nier: Automata, you play as 2B, an android stationed in a world where alien forces have attacked after the end of the world. The game has 26 endings, plus one more with the DLC, so you have to play it more than once to find out the whole truth.
The sad story has touched a lot of people because it talks about important things, like how traumatic war can be and how it can change people. The DLC comes with the Switch version, giving you access to three more colosseums and more costumes.
Eight In One – Octopath Traveler
In Octopath Traveler, you start your journey by choosing one of the eight characters. As you move through Orsterra, you meet each of the other characters. Every character has a story to tell and a “job” that determines what skills they can use in battle.
During the game, characters can take on different jobs, which lets you make your party just the way you want it. The good things about Octopath Traveler are not just its unique way of doing turn-based battles, but also its HD-2D graphics, which helped to bring pixel graphics back to life.
Perfect Mix Of Genres – Dragon Quest Builders 2
Dragon Quest Builders 2 combines RPG elements with block-building mechanics to make a fun game that isn’t just a generic builder sandbox game but gives you the best of both genres.
Even if you haven’t played the first game, you can still enjoy this one because the story and characters are all new. The evil cult called the Children of Hargon has banned building, so you’ll need to use your skills to become a real builder. Along with its single-player story, you can play online with up to four other people and work together to build new things.
Fairytale Classic – Final Fantasy 9
Final Fantasy 9 is different from the other games in the series because it goes back to classic fantasy tropes and focuses on deep messages. This is in contrast to the game’s cartoony art style. The story arcs of the game’s main characters make you think and tie into the game’s most important themes.
It’s a mix of the familiar and the new, drawing from older Final Fantasy tropes while also doing something completely new. If you’ve never played a game in the series before, FF9 is a good place to start. Even if you have, playing it on the Switch is a great reason to play it again.
Protect The Planet – Final Fantasy 7
In Final Fantasy 7, the group Avalanche hires the mercenary Cloud Strife to stop the Shinra Electric Power Company from draining the life energy from the planet. Cloud learns more about his past and his connection to Sephiroth as he tries to save the world.
People say that Funny Shooter 2 game is one of the best RPGs ever made because it has interesting characters, a Materia system that can be changed, and a touching story about saving the world from a corrupt government. If you haven’t played this well-known game yet, the Nintendo Switch version is a great way to do so.
Finally Playable In The West – Live A Live
In Live A Live, you choose which of the main characters you want to start your journey with and then move through time with them. Each character’s story is different. With Sundown, you’ll go to the Wild West, and with Oboromaru, you’ll go to Edo Japan.
With the Nintendo Switch version, the game is finally coming to the West for the first time. When it first came out, it was only in Japan. The remaster also has HD-2D graphics like those in Octopath Traveler, which breathe new life into the pixel graphics.
Classic Hero’s Story – Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes Of An Elusive Age – Definitive Edition
Dragon Quest is one of the most well-known classic RPG series, and each game in the series explores important fantasy themes. Dragon Quest 11 is definitely up there with the best. It takes parts from other games and makes them better, so the experience is both new and familiar.
Dragon Quest 11 is the game to get if you want to spend hundreds of hours playing it. Even though it’s the eleventh mainline game, you don’t have to have played any of the previous games to understand the story.
Join The Reapers’ Game – NEO: The World Ends With You
NEO: The World Ends With You is a follow-up to The World Ends With You, which came out in 2007. It keeps the success of the first game but adds a new story and characters. In NEO, the main character, Rindo Kanade, and his friend Fret end up in the Reapers’ Game for no reason.
You don’t have to have played the first game to enjoy this one, but if you did, the returning characters will be even more fun. Exploring the colorful area of Shibuya is fun, and you’ll want to find new pins and clothes to use in battle everywhere you go. Takeharu Ishimoto wrote the music for the game, which is upbeat and gets you ready to beat some Noise.
