Applying Eye Makeup to Dark Skin Tone

Begin with using the right foundation. The best way to choose a foundation is to take three similar shades and swipe them on the side of your skin. Set for just a minute, blend it down, and then you can see which one fits your skin tone. It is very apparent, not something too light but you want something that blends right in to the skin tone. Choosing the right foundation will make everything easier and look natural.

Once you have put some base foundation, we can now start putting on the concealer. A lot of women don’t realize this but, when you put concealer on the eyelid and put a little bit of powder on top, it keeps your eyeshadow on all day and keeps it from creasing. Applying concealer and powder over the eyelids, will keep your sweat and natural oils from coming through and will keep your mascara and eye makeup in place.

It is also recommended to apply some eye cream. Applying concealer on dry eyelids will only make your eyes look really dry because the eye would suck up the moisture from the concealer and it would start to go into the lines. One technique to resolve this is to just put your eye cream right on the corner edge of your eye and gently pat with your index finger.

Use a concealer that is about half a shade lighter. Brushing it on and tapping it with a finger afterwards just to smooth it out. Pat it over the whole eyelid to even out the whole skin tone then proceed to other eyelid. Take a peek every now and then to make sure that everything is well blended.

Once done with the concealer you can now move on to the basic eyeshadow. Some eyeshadows don’t look like the color on the package so, it is very important to invest in a good set of eyeshadow with pigment. Finding an eyeshadow with better pigment will make blending easier and give better results. Take your basic color, it is recommended to use a bronze type of gold because it looks best on darker skin, and a flat brush. Tap gently over the entire eyelid. Adding a little bit of shimmer on the eye gives it a little bit more youthful pop. However, if you are a little bit older, you can still wear a little shimmer on top but not all over the eyelid. Gently pat the eyeshadow makeup with your fingers. If you just use a brush, it does not tend to stay on as long. You can smooth it out with just a touch and you’re done with a beautiful base color.

Next, we’re going to do the third color which is the crease color. To do the trick, you can use an angled eyeshadow brush to give a lifted look of the eye. Close your eye and create a V in the corner. It is really easy and an angled brush fits perfectly on the corner. Brush up and softly blend to achieve a lifted eye look. Do the same for the other eye. Always tap your brush to get rid of the excess eyeshadow. Using enough amount of eyeshadow makeup will save time in cleaning the excess powder that may fall underneath the eye.
