Peterson, PhD, concluded that “Exposure to two or more dogs or cats in the first year of life may lower future risk of allergic sensitization to multiple allergens during childhood.”

During the course of a child’s life, they may want a companion in their life and a pet is the best friend a child can possibly want. The real challenge is choosing a pet that suits your kid’s personality the best. Choosing the right pet for your child can make him a responsible person in the future.

According to American Veterinary Medical Association dogs are the most common companions closely followed by cats, birds and horses.

Here are the best pet choices for your kid.

  • Fish:

Fish is the best pet for your kids. It is the least demanding and charming pet. Fish in your house helps brightens it up and makes it warmer and homier. Usually children like small creatures and these creatures are very fascinating to them.

If you are getting a fish for the first time Goldfish is the best option. It does

not require much care and heavy aquariums. All you need is a small bowl, water and food.

Choosing fish as a pet comes with its perks. Let your child arrange the aquarium and all the accessories and take care of the food of the

pet. These small responsibilities can positively affect his personality.

  • Guinea Pigs:

Guinea pigs are very calm and friendly. They are average sized and can result in a very good pet for children less than 8 years of age. These pigs are beautiful creatures and are very social animals.

 

Choosing guinea pig as a pet is a long time commitment as their life span is about 3 to 5 years but some tend to live more than this time period.

However these loving and beautiful forms of life do need a large cage and an open area to play. They also crave for attention and constant care. They do feel lonely if kept without a pair. Always keep them in same-sex pairs; male-male and female-female.

  • Birds:

Birds are very friendly creatures and their addition to a family. They also need attention constantly and care. Over 5 million people in United States

have bird as their pet. This feathery creature is very easy going and does not need a large cage or land to play.

Birds can be trained according to your child. Some of them can talk(whatever you teach them).  Birds can eat a variety of things most of which are homemade.

Parakeets or Budgies are the most common birds kept as pets.

  • Hamsters:

Hamsters are small mammals and are very cute. They are very easygoing and free living creature. Hamsters are cuddly and pleasant to hold animal.

Hamsters are the best choice as first pets as they do not require much

attention. They are free souls and do need a large playing area for their exercises. However hamsters are very protective of their territory and do not like companionship. They prefer to live alone.
