  1. Remember to pack your documents in your carry-on bag. Clothes can wait, but Airlines can’t. No ID proof, passport, or visa means no Southwest Airlines check-in. Ask the Airline about needed IDs if you’re under 18 and alone. Adults, if you forget your ID, you can still fly but expect extra forms and TSA questions. So, pack IDs, passports, visas, and tickets in your carry-on bag.
  2. Try to be present at the airport 2 to 3 hours before your flight, whether within the country or to another country – It gives you enough time for Southwest Airlines check-in and to get on the plane with Southwest Airlines without any rush. If you’re going on an international trip, have young kids with you, or are with someone who needs help due to a disability, it’s wise to arrive even earlier. If you’re driving to the airport, give yourself extra time for parking and taking the shuttle to your gate if needed. And if you’re unfamiliar with the airport, add more time to find your way around.
  3. When you get to the airport, start by finding where your airline is –  Airports have different areas and sections called terminals for each airline. If you’re leaving, go to the terminal for departures. You can check your airline’s terminal online, ask airport staff, or call ahead. If someone’s dropping you off, let them know your airline.
  4. You might need to go through Southwest Airlines check-in for luggage if you have packed a large bag – Each passenger usually gets a carry-on and a smaller bag like a laptop case. If you’re checking bags, go to your airline’s counter. There are limits on bag weight and size, so be careful not to over-pack if you don’t want to pay extra.
  5. Get a boarding pass to get on the plane – If you’re checking bags, the airline staff can help. If not, you can use a self-check-in kiosk, or sometimes you can use the Southwest Airlines check-in online option. You’ll either print the pass or use it on your phone.
  6. Security will remove your shoes, jacket, and belts, so wear comfortable items – Anything metal should come off too. You might not need to remove your shoes if you’re 75+ or younger than 13 or have TSA PreCheck. Empty your pockets and get ready before you reach the front.
  7. When you are at the scanning bar, take out your electronic items – Take out your laptop and place it in a bin for scanning. Small gadgets like phones can stay in your bag. If you’re in TSA PreCheck, you can leave your laptop in your bag.
  8. If you are packing liquids, pack them in a container – Liquids are allowed if packed in containers under 3 ounces. You can only have 3 of them in a clear plastic bag. Check for open drink bottles, as security might throw them out during Southwest Airlines check-in.
  9. If you complete Southwest Airlines check-in online, you get plenty of time to find your boarding gate – Look at your boarding pass to see which gate your flight is leaving. Confirm the gate no on the screens near security. Head to the right gate once you know where it is.
  10. Remember to grab some snacks if you have not booked a flight ticket that serves food – Some flights don’t serve food, so consider buying snacks before you board. Make sure they’re not too messy or smelly.
  11. Find a seat near your gate and wait – If your flight’s delayed, have something to keep you occupied. Stay close to your boarding gate so you don’t miss the announcement to board.
